This two dozen batch of almond cookies was inspired by a woman named Esther. She was a mentor to Arlette and taught her the value of listening. “Esther felt that you never needed more than you had. We had this pilgrimage to a Portuguese bakery in Cambridge to buy almond macaroons, which we froze, we had one each every third week of the month until the two dozen were gone.”
